OVERVIEW
Powerco has implemented Copperleaf to help ensure we’re working on the projects that deliver the best value to our customers. The software helps our team make well-informed choices about which projects offer the best investment, by using our newly developed Value Framework to weigh up factors such as whether the project improves network reliability, increases safety, reduces cost or reduces environmental impact. The Framework quantifies the value each proposed project can deliver against these measures so that we can make consistent, informed choices about where we invest.
Copperleaf also allows us to optimise the portfolio of projects that we’re working on – helping us to make informed decisions about where our limited resources are best spent for maximum value.
Copperleaf required a huge amount of data about our network assets – such as age, type, location and condition – to be collected and transformed to inform the Value Framework modelling.
We’ll be regularly reviewing the Framework to ensure it continues to reflect our customers’ needs.
The implementation of Copperleaf is an important step in supporting our asset management maturity.

The challenge
With a vast network of assets to manage, it’s important to make the right choices when deciding where and when to invest, to ensure our network remains safe, reliable and efficient for our customers.
The solution
Partnering with an external vendor – Copperleaf – to implement new software that uses our Value Framework to weigh up how proposed projects deliver value across a range of factors.
The benefit
We can consistently evaluate and optimise the portfolio of projects we’re working on, to ensure we’re working on the right things at the right time.

FAQ
We strive to minimise impact in the design and placement of network infrastructure and we’re still planning and consulting on the route for the new circuit. The circuit will be a mix of overhead lines – which you will see, and underground cable – which you won’t see. You’ll also see a new building at our Putaruru substation, replacing the ageing existing building there.
